Fabric Composition Knowledge

The comfort of clothing is mainly determined by its visual appeal, thermal and moisture comfort, tactile comfort, and the fabric composition. Here is a detailed look into various fabric compositions, curated by styledfabrics. We hope you find this information useful!

Fabric Composition Knowledge - Part One:

  1. Linen: A plant fiber known for its coolness and nobility. It has excellent moisture absorption, fast moisture release, high heat conductivity, quick heat dissipation, and is resistant to static electricity. Linen garments are cool, non-clingy when sweaty, durable, and have good heat resistance.
  2. Mulberry Silk: A natural animal protein fiber that is smooth, soft, and glossy. It feels warm in winter and cool in summer, has a unique "silk sound" when rubbed, excellent elasticity, and good heat resistance. However, it is not resistant to saltwater and should not be treated with chlorine bleach or detergent.
  3. Viscose: Made from natural cellulose materials like wood, cotton linters, and reeds, it is also known as rayon. It shares basic properties with natural fibers, has good dyeability, strong fastness, softness, heavy drape, good moisture absorption, coolness, and is resistant to static electricity, pilling, and fuzzing.
  4. Acetate Fiber: Made from cellulose-containing natural materials, it has the style of silk, is lightweight, comfortable, elastic, and has good recovery. It should not be washed with water and has poor color fastness.
  5. Polyester: A type of polyester fiber with excellent elasticity and resilience. It is crisp, wrinkle-free, retains its shape well, has high strength and elasticity, is durable, and has excellent light resistance, but tends to generate static electricity and has poor moisture absorption.
  6. Nylon: A polyamide fiber known as nylon, it has good dyeability among synthetic fibers, is lightweight, waterproof, windproof, highly abrasion-resistant, strong, and elastic.
  7. Polypropylene: Resembles wool or cotton with a waxy feel and luster. It has average elasticity and recovery, is lightweight, and provides good comfort. It quickly wicks sweat away from the skin, is durable, and not heat-resistant.
  8. Spandex: Known for its excellent elasticity, it is also called elastic fiber or Lycra. It has good elasticity, a smooth feel, low moisture absorption, excellent weather and chemical resistance, and can be machine washed, but has poor heat resistance.
  9. Vinylon: Resembles cotton fabric with a poor elasticity, good moisture absorption, is lightweight, and warm. It is strong, durable, resistant to chemicals and sunlight.
  10. Pure Linen Fabric: Fine, lightweight, crisp, smooth with good breathability and comfort.
  11. Summer Cloth: Traditional Chinese textile, white in color with a soft luster, cool and crisp when worn.
  12. Blended Linen Fabric: Dense, durable, clean, and soft, more comfortable than pure linen.
  13. Polylana: A wool and polyester blend that is light, smooth, crisp, wrinkle-resistant, easy to wash and dry, with good wearability.
  14. Worsted Woolen Fabric: Also known as gabardine, smooth and firm with tight, elastic, clean, flat surface and soft, natural luster.
  15. Shafted Fabric: Classified into woolen, mixed, and blended shafted fabrics. The woolen type has a natural, soft luster, faint texture, soft hand feel, crisp body, and no hairiness. The blended type is crisp, wrinkle-resistant, easy to wash and iron, with good shape retention.
  16. Light Woolen Fabric: Lightweight, smooth, comfortable, crisp, good moisture absorption and breathability.
  17. Loose Woolen Fabric: Lightweight, soft, loose, elastic, and breathable, comfortable to wear.
  18. Melton: A type of coarse woolen fabric, full-bodied, clean, firm, elastic, abrasion-resistant, and does not pill easily, with soft and beautiful color.
  19. Long-Pile Fabric: Also known as mohair, with dense, firm pile, good warmth, bright luster, soft hand feel, full and thick, light, and durable.
  20. Viscose: Good moisture absorption and breathability, easy to dye, with good hand feel, comfortable to wear, good drape, and washable.
  21. Plain Cloth: Simple structure, tight, strong, flat surface but lacks elasticity.
  22. Fine Cloth: Stronger than silk, smooth, light, thin, soft, and comfortable.
  23. Poplin: Fine, lightweight, soft, smooth, crisp, with clear, full grain and bright luster, good texture.
  24. Batiste: Very lightweight, comfortable, good moisture absorption and breathability, characterized by thin, light, cool qualities.
  25. Khaki: Dense, thick, strong, durable, with good abrasion resistance, crisp, and clear weave.
  26. Satin: Smooth, delicate, soft hand feel, good gloss, bright color, good elasticity, dense texture, and shape retention.
  27. Crepe: Wrinkled surface, also known as walnut fabric, lightweight, soft, smooth, novel, easy to dye.
  28. Oxford Cloth: Cotton fabric with a soft hand feel, natural luster, breathable, comfortable, crisp, and good shape retention.
  29. Cotton Satin: Cotton fabric with a satin weave, silk-like luster and style, soft hand feel, thick texture, elastic, comfortable, good appearance, and color.
